Occupancy monitors

If you want to know how many people are in your site, or in a particular space in your site - you will want to set up an occupancy monitor.

Occupancy monitors can be used for optimising ticketing, setting staff rotas or allocating resources in real-time to the busiest areas.

This article gives more information about how occupancy monitors can be used. An occupancy monitor will also give you all the data a people count monitor would give you, find out more.

Occupancy monitors

You can set a capacity for the monitor (this is typically the maximum number of people the space can hold) and create an occupancy alert to tell team members when a space is approaching, or has reached, its capacity.

Occupancy monitors can be used for optimising ticketing, setting staff rotas or allocating resources in real-time to the busiest areas.

An occupancy monitor requires a camera for every doorway into/out of the space. During the monitor setup process you will be asked to configure the directions of each camera being used - so we will know when traffic is entering your space or leaving your space.

The monitor will combine the in/out counts of all its cameras to give you the current occupancy of the space. Find out more about how monitor and camera directions work together.

Using occupancy in real-time

You can view the live occupancy of each space from your Control Room dashboard. With this information you can make immediate decisions on issues such as visitor admission, with the confidence that you are not exceeding capacity levels.

You can also set up occupancy monitor alerts. You might, for instance, want to notify team members when any space reaches 90% capacity, to restrict visitor entries or to allocate extra staff resources to a busy area. Alerts can be set to whatever level you choose and will be sent out in real-time, giving you full flexibility in how you use your real-time occupancy information.

Historical occupancy trends

In addition to real-time occupancy data, you can get access to the full history of your occupancy data via the reporting tools in the Control Room. In-depth reporting allows you to explore your occupancy data across custom time and date ranges. With this information you can spot trends, visitor patterns and gain a better understanding of building usage to further optimise your operations and visitor experiences.

Full instructions for creating an occupancy monitor are available in the control room user guide.

People count data with an occupancy monitor

An occupancy monitor will tell you how many people are in a space at a given time. A people count monitor will tell you how many people have entered, exited or passed a space within a time period. It can often be useful to know both. There is no need however to set up separate people count and occupancy monitors. An occupancy monitor will automatically give you all the data a people count monitor would give you.
